The Roman Theatre Interpretation Centre

Museums
The Roman Theatre of Málaga is unmissable today, lying as it does on the flanks of the hill supporting the Alcazaba. It was contructed in the time of Augustus and was in use until the third century. After the fall of the empire it was used by the visigoths as a cemetary and fell generally into disrepair. The arrival of the moorish fortress and Alcazaba further damaged it as much of the building materials for the palace above were lifted from the theatre. Various columns and cornices can be seen embedded around the Alcazaba. After that it dissappears from history until it is rediscovered in 1951! Although you can see it perfectly clearly from the pedestrian area infront, you can enter the interpretation centre and take a guided tour of the site and get a range of different views. Entry is free and well worth it.
