The first new exhibition in the CAC for 2018 celebrates the work of German sculpture Stephen Balkenhol. If you are a fan of the CAC, you are familiar with one of his works already. The large bronze statue of the man with backward leaning legs is a 2002 work that has stood outside the gallery for some years and is emblematic of the gallery: modern, unpredictable, breaking with convention always and full of surprises every time.
The Mercado de Salamanca is one of those fabulous opulent oddities that gets built and becomes part of the fabric and identity of the neighbourhood, but is often little known outside the locality. Otherwise known as the Mercadillo del Molinillo, as that's the name of the barrio in which it is located, it was built between 1922 and 25, and has had nearly a hundred years continuous use as a local market. Its forty something stalls sell predominantly fish and seafood, fresh meat and vegetables, and a few more esoteric offerings.

Now in its twelth edition, the Malaga Noche en Blanco, 'the white night', offers the visitor free access to many cultural institutions, as well as a host of activities, events, concerts and happenings around the town, many situated in the city's fabulous historic monuments. This years event takes place from 7pm until 1am. The concept originally came from Paris where the city authorities created a nightlong event of access to public buildings and cultural institutions, and caught on quickly around other European cities. Malaga's first one was in 2008, and this years theme was the result of a public vote on a Facebook platform. The theme selected is 'around the world in one night'. Hence the fetching poster that riffs on the familiar air baggage tag we are all so familiar with.

Malaga Feria means many things, but mostly music and dancing, drinking and eating, sort of in that order. It also means horses and fabulous traditional costumes, it means throbbing, gyrating fun fairs with atomic level impact rides. It means very very late nights. It means noise. Lots of it. Whether its the din of several thousand sound systems cheek by jowl in the feria ground, or the thunderous firework displays, or just the ability of the Andaluzes to talk and celebrate at top volume, the feria is an assault on the senses: aurally, visually and alcoholically!
This discreet little barrio, just behind the Plaza de la Merced, throbs with genuinely local street art of a style and vibrancy that is wholly unexpected, and ironically far more rewarding than the 'official' street art of SoHo.
Finding affordable pet and home care in an unfamiliar location makes planning holidays a particular challenge. As expats most of us face this issue several times a year. Police and background checked sitters can keep your pets and property safe.
