Located within Malaga's Central Atarazanas Market, Cafe Bar Mercado Atarazanas offers a casual dining experience where visitors can enjoy local seafood and traditional bites. The venue, characterized by its relaxed market vibe, specializes in serving fried fish, grilled seafood, and other regional delicacies directly sourced from the market's fish stalls. Visitors can expect an array of seafood options prepared simply to highlight the freshness of the ingredients.
The atmosphere is bustling, especially during peak times, creating a convivial space that reflects the vibrant market setting. Patrons should prepare for a lively, sometimes crowded experience, capturing the essence of local market life. Beer and wine selections complement the seafood offerings, with cold beer and affordable local wines available.
While the cafe bar maintains its roots as part of the market, aligning itself with the traditional concept of market dining, customers may find the environment more suited for a quick bite during a market visit rather than a formal sit-down meal. When in Málaga a mercado you must visit. Great vibe. Visit early to avoid crowds, enjoy the walk down the main avenue.
We went here twice. First during the winter 2025 and again during semana santa. The first visit was standing in the stall and we had a blast. Food was nice, service was nice. When we ordered it was clarified whether to get tapas or portion/ racion. The second visit however was horrible. The service was poor and extremely slow. The server wasn’t the friendliest either. (I’ve been to a few places in this market and this was the most unfriendliest. We also made a mistake of not saying tapas for our croquettes and ended up with big potion of croquettes that we couldn’t finish. Additionally, when we tried to pay, I got cash and card with me and the guy told us: cash only. I don’t mind to pay cash, but please don’t con the customer like that, as other people paid by card. Will we be back? Nope! Not for the horrible service.
With trying to get a table here for the seafood, might be a wait during peak hours in the queue but worth it. We even had a buggy with us so we were worried it might not work but the servers here managed to get a table where the toddler could go. Must try seafood!
Food was excellent very fresh and filling. Service was slow as they are very busy. Cheap and would go again
Husband has eaten a lot of octopus in his life - he said the Pulpo skewer he got from here was the best he has ever eaten - grilled to perfection, beautifully cooked, very fresh. It can get a bit crowded around the small bar area but it’s not hard to understand why!
