FNAC is a venerable French retail institution that started life in 1954 as a members-only buyers club aimed at working people, to enhance their lives and education and access to consumer goods. It was an unashamedly socialist goal. Today, the echoes of this philosophy are still seen on the shelves. FNAC is the culture and media store par excellence. Its bookshop is comprehensive and diverse. It stocks an enormous range of music, films, technology and audiovisual equipment, photographic supplies and computer hardware. Traditionally FNAC has also been a cultural meeting point, holding lectures and events, discussions and performances and this tradition is kept alive to this day. Most weekends and some evenings will see some kind of event on at FNAC, so keep an eye out online or on notices in the shop. FNAC is basically THE shop of reference for anything to do with media, literature, culture and the hardware to consume it on!
