This small market slightly north of the old quarter is still a thriving neighbourhood market. Far less touristy than the now famous Atarazanas it has 48 little stalls selling fresh produce and seafood. The architecture is splendid. It is a 1920's neo-arab caprice with art nouveau echoes. Unique indeed. It featured prominently in a film of the Algerian rising many years ago, such is its authentic arab appearence. It would undoubtedly be much more famous but for its oopulent cousin down in the centre, but this market has certainly a more authentic local flavour and is notably free of gastro bars.
