Teatro Canovas

The Cánovas theatre is in the El Ejido district of the city, immediately north of the historic centre adjoining the arts complex of the University of Malaga. Opened in 1991, since 2005 it has been managed by the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía. The Canovas Theater has 370 seats and a small studio space with a capacity of 50 places recently incorporated, together with La Sala Gades with 234 seats, which form the so-called multidisciplinary and polyvalent stage spaces. Since the 2013-2014 season, Cánovas Theater has undergone a new turn in programming dedicated to children and young people while La Sala Gades, located in the Higher Conservatory and Dance Professional, blends in with the space and specializes its programming with work committed to dance in all its facets. Three spaces linked to the city of Malaga where each one can breathe their own production and proposals full of creativity and contemporaneity for different audiences. Among the exhibition activities are the Theater and Dance Cycle, the Viene del Sur Flamenco Cycle, the International Theatre Festival with Puppets, Object and Visual, Humor Cycle and Thespis Festival.
