Hi. Just arrived back home after a six night stay at the hotel with a bed and breakfast booked through jet 2 staying in room 105 on the first floor . What can we say? Food. (Breakfast buffet) gave a great start to the day. Plenty of it and a good choice of food from cold plate and hot, more continental and not an English fry up in sight. Room. Large comfy bed, clean with air-con, hot walk in shower room and cleaned daily. Room is double glazed keeping outside noise to a minimum, safe coded to your own choice. Staff. From start to finish, lovely people. Any problems sorted out in minutes (air con shown how to use properly and the safe opened and reset code) by front of house staff. Kitchen staff an absolute pleasure (thanks Alan and his team). A great central location in Malaga, the port, trains, buses all within walking distance so all in all a great base to start your day off from.

We stayed here for 3 nights on a city break. The hotel is superbly placed on the edge of the historic centre, giving you easy access to this wonderful area, full of culture, tapas bars, restaurants and shops. The hotel was exceptionally clean and well appointed, the room was very stylish, comfortable and well equipped as was the bathroom. All the hotel staff were polite and helpful. I would highly recommend a stay here. We will be returning!

Lovely well furnished hotel with First class staff and comfortable rooms. We were on the second floor and to get to the rooms 214 to 222 is a slightly strange but entertaining approach. You have to ascend to floor 1 then cross through the lovely bar/breakfast area, to the lifts/stairs at the other side of the passage outside the hotel. Daniel was our very helpful and welcoming guide to the room. This is only accessible via the hotel reception and cannot be accessed from the street. Here in the bar, among others you will find Alan, Valentino, Ana amongst many others of the helpful, friendly and charming staff of the hotel. We were very happy with our choice of hotel, it is well situated for local taxis (there are two ranks very close by) buses and the Metro. Also easy access to the historic quarter of Malaga and harbour area. Everything is pretty much walkable from here, the Cathedral, Alcazabar, many many good restaurants and bars and also museums are within 10 mins maximum. The Metro goes directly to the train station 'Maria Zambrano' where you can get one of the many outstanding, fast, comfortable and uncrowded train services to places a little further afield. There are safes in every room for which there is no charge, and Daniel or Valentino bring cooled bottles of water to your rooms in the afternoons. Jessica was our friendly, efficient and affable chambermaid. The pasaje at street level is open at all 3 entrances during the day so if you are overlooking this AND open your windows you will hear passing conversations (many people stop to photograph the pituresque pasaje) With the windows closed you will hear little of the vibrant city outside. Breakfast is buffet style with a resident chef who will prepare you omelettes or Huevos Fritos if you wish. I couldnt find a fault with the Hotel Catalonia Puerta del mar, everything was fabulous, the crown though belongs to the staff, who are the very best, helpful, friendly, welcoming most speak embarrassingly excellent English compared to my pitiful Spanish (Lo Siento!) I have not named all the staff, but each and every one of them will go the extra mile to make your day and your stay a pleasant and comfortable one. Thankyou to ALL the staff for a memorable stay. Highly recommended.

The hotel is in a central location but remains peaceful and quiet enough despite being walking distance from many famous sites. The rooms were very clean and nicely renovated. However, many hotel guests, including myself, were woken up between 4-5am by the fire alarm which kept ringing intermittently. During the first round, i tried calling the front desk but the line was engaged, so we got dressed and prepared to head down. The second time alarm went off, we headed down by the stairs and saw many other guests going down as well. There were no staff trying to explain the situation properly, just one front desk employee who claimed they had it under control and another guest then said "could be false alarm". Since there seemed to be no instructions from the hotel staff, the guests eventually started going back up. However, the alarms kept ringing repeatedly for a total of about 40 minutes. There was no explanation for the alarm, no apology for the disruption of our rest, no offer for partial refund or even vouchers, nothing. This is very unbecoming of a 4-star hotel. We asked one of the morning staff what happened and they said it was the system. But when we checked out the following day, another staff said it was because a guest was smoking in their room. This is rather strange as the alarm should have stopped after the cigarette smoke dissipated, but it went on and off repeatedly for close to an hour.
