Teatro Cervantes

The Cervantes theatre is Malaga's flagship auditorium. Opened in 1870 after its predecessor burned down, it is a splendid neo-classical theatre, with stalls, balconies, private boxes and large ornate traditional proscenium. The views from anywhere in the auditorium are excellent, and while it holds over a 1000 seats, the feeling is one of intimacy and elegance. The programme is a rich and diverse selection of the very finest of performing arts and high culture, as well as more risque, diverse and avant-garde shows. It is the main venue for Malaga's orchestras and opera companies, it hosts the cinema and jazz festivals, the summer Terral music festival, as well as an eclectic programme of theatre, dance, contemporary and popular music, and childrens matinees. It is located very centrally just behind Plaza de la Merced and is literally surrounded by bodegas and tapas bars, so you can comfortably see a show, dine, and head out for late drinks without going very far at all.
