A Cooking Day is a cookery class but also something much more. It's a guided tour around Andalucian gastronomy, that takes place in a traditional 17th-century country home nestling in an olive grove. It is an inclusive experience around cooking, learning, eating, drinking, chatting and above all experiencing. Mayte is your host and teacher. In 2000 she moved back to her family's farmhouse in the Malaga countryside, re-establishing her bond with the place she was born. Here, following the steps of the extraordinary cook her grandmother was, she developed a passion for preserving the roots and essence of traditional gastronomy, as well as passing on her enthusiasm for local products and seasonal cooking. So this is A Cooking Day. The commitment is to provide a tasty way to get involved with the local culture and gastronomy through hands-on cooking sessions, market visits and tailor-made cooking events with a distinctive philosophy: a relaxed and authentic atmosphere, fresh, seasonal and mostly local products, and delicious Spanish food to be prepared and shared in an authentic context. All this takes place in a fabulous rambling cortijo, quintessentially Andaluz, and surrounded by acres of fruit orchards, olive and almond trees. Locally sourced orange, lemon, pomegranate, nuts, olives and oils all inform the food, together with the rich local ingredients of the province, making this at once a cultural eye-opener, a gastronomic odyssey and a great social experience.
